I take immense satisfaction in having earned my BA in Visual Arts from UCSD, a milestone that reflects my lifelong dedication to the arts.
My artistic journey began at a young age, inspired by my older sister’s comic books. I vividly remember being around five years old, captivated by characters like Little Lulu. My creativity knew no bounds; we hand-crafted beloved Disney characters such as Porky Pig, Donald Duck, and Daffy Duck, igniting a passion that has never faded.
Throughout high school, I embraced every opportunity to infuse art into my projects, from designing signs and posters to incorporating drawing into compositional reports with special permission. This early practice was a testament to my commitment and ingenuity.
In college, I immersed myself in the full spectrum of art education, studying art history and studio techniques that spanned drawing, color theory and design, painting, sculpture, life drawing, pen and ink lettering, bookmaking, and printmaking, including woodblock prints and lithography.
My professional journey began as a faux finisher, where I honed my skills in creating murals, hand-made stencils, and trompe-l’œil effects. This experience laid a rich foundation for my later work. At 62, I transitioned into full-time fine art creation and teaching, surrounded by a vibrant community of friends and fellow artists. Each day is a new adventure, fueled by my passion for painting and the joy of collaborating with others who share my enthusiasm.
I am deeply grateful for the remarkable people I’ve encountered on this artistic journey. Without my path as a full-time artist, I can hardly imagine what else I would have pursued.
My passion shines through in my unique creations—especially my figures made from driftwood found along Southern California beaches. These whimsical pieces, adorned with paint, buttons, metal bottle caps, sparkly objects, straw, ribbons, and more, never fail to elicit smiles and laughter. Each giggle warms my heart, reaffirming my love for the art I create.
