Jennifer Hurley
Jennifer Hurley’s artistic odyssey began with a robust foundation in fine arts at San Diego State University, where her passion for painting was ignited and nurtured. Her journey took a transformative turn at the Sergei Bongart School of Art and the California Institute of Art, where she immersed herself in the vibrant world of Russian Impressionism under the masterful guidance of Sergei Bongart. Bongart, a luminary in the art world, imparted a profound appreciation for Russian Impressionism, an evocative style deeply influenced by French Impressionism. This style, characterized by its spirited freedom, bold brushwork, and vivid palette, encapsulates a captivating blend of spontaneity and emotional depth, reimagined through a uniquely Russian lens.
Bongart’s teachings also illuminated the rich historical tapestry of Russian art, tracing its evolution from the time of Peter the Great’s cultural exchange with Europe. Under his mentorship, Jennifer absorbed the technical mastery of Western art, embracing new materials and methods that expanded the visual and thematic scope of her work.
Jennifer’s artistic evolution continued under the esteemed tutelage of Sunny Apinchapong, Joseph Mendez, and Charles Movalli—renowned masters who further honed her craft and vision.
The genesis of Jennifer’s artistic passion can be traced back to her childhood, when her visits to her grandmother’s garden, brimming with orchids and an array of roses, sparked a lifelong fascination with these exquisite blooms. A particularly memorable moment occurred when a friend gifted her a bouquet of roses, inspiring them to paint together after a shared meal. This experience ignited Jennifer’s enduring love for roses, prompting her to cultivate her own heritage roses in a dedicated garden. Each morning, Jennifer tends to her rose garden, harvesting the flowers she later arranges and paints in her studio. Among her cherished varieties is the Gallica Rose, celebrated for its stunning display of pink, red, or purple blossoms and its captivating fragrance—a true emblem of heritage beauty. Jennifer’s exceptional work has garnered recognition at prestigious venues, including The Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the California Art Club Gold Medal exhibitions, the Scottsdale Artist’s School’s “The Best and the Brightest,” and the Carnegie Art Museum’s “A Classic Competition.” Her paintings have also graced the Pasadena Showcase of Design, underscoring her place among the luminaries of the art world.
